Divertissement
Divertissement is an album comprised of 11 original tracks mixed in terms of inspiration and topics tackled such as art, literature, comics, dance, movement and speed, feelings, past and nostalgia, current events – and in terms of musical genres used and expressed on a very personal note including swing, rock, prog, Balkan, classical, and pop. All of this combined with the intention of tracing a coherent and sincere transversal path in order to investigate and deepen my personal poetics.
The title Divertissement has a dual reference for me: in classical music it generally indicates an instrumental piece with a flowing, light character that was in vogue in the second half of the 18th century; at the same time, it also deliberately alludes to the concept of 'fun', from the Latin term di-vèrtere which means to turn elsewhere, to deviate in the opposite direction.
In fact, in this album there was the strong need to direct my gaze, my attention, elsewhere in an attempt to broaden my sound spectrum in the search for new timbrical solutions, new melodies, new and more tailored arrangements and rhythmic -percussive expedients. All of which were materialized and performed, always and only, on the violin according to the procedure that I have been pursuing for several years now: ViolinOrchestra, an entire orchestra with a single five-string violin.
